Laboratory Safety Training Summer Course 2021
Notes to students:

Working in research laboratory, students need to comprehend a broad range of safety related concepts. For example, they are needed to know the basic emergency procedures. One of the aims of these courses is to ensure as much as reasonably practical that students have, and contribute to a safe working environments. A further aim is to minimize accidents and to minimize their severity. There are legal and moral duties to do this by the University and students.

These courses are designed for undergraduate students who may do research laboratory work during the summer session, and did not get basic laboratory safety training by their department. Some of the course materials can be found on the USO Homepage (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/useo/safety/).

The course consists of:

General & Chemical Safety is recommend for all laboratory related students.

Radiation Safety are recommend to those students who are going handle radioactive chemicals. Students can consult their supervisors or departments (or maybe the USO) to check if they need to take these safety courses.

Please login the zoom meeting with your cuhk email account. USO will record the participants duration time in meeting.

In the classroom, you are required to take the following precaution and hygiene measures :

You should pass the body temperature screening before enter the classroom. Please do not come to the class if you feel unwell on the day.

Students will be seated with space in between individuals (at least 1 empty seat in between

Wear masks during the whole session in classroom.

Record of attendance will be given to the department.

Typhoon and Black Rainstorm Arrangement
If the local storm warning signal no. 8 or above or the black rainstorm signal is hoisted at the following hours, classes will be suspended as below:
Signal hoisted By
7:00 a.m.
12:00 noon
Sessions/ Periods suspended
8:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
1:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
If the local storm warning signal No. 8 or above or the black rainstorm signal is hoisted during a class period, all classes will be suspended immediately. When the black rainstorm signal is still in force, students are advised to take shelter in a safe place until the weather and traffic conditions have improved.
